Past Events

Events are a fantastic way to collect substantial funds for Interact and every year our events participants make a real difference to the work we do. Here are some examples of past events:

London Marathon 2007 - Congratulations!
Congratulations to all our London Marathon Runners who completed the grueling 26.2 miles on Sunday 22nd April. A wonderful effort on the day and some amazing fundraising has raised more than £15,000 so far. Well Done! See photos from London Marathon 2007 here.

The Windsor Half Marathon September 2006
David and Helen successfully managed to complete the Windsor Half Maraton in 2hrs 3min and 2hrs 9min. They also raised over £660 towards Interact Worldwide's vital work. Well done and thank you so much for all your hard work!

From a Great Height- Skydiving Summer 2006
skydiveOne of our supporters recently jumped 12,000 feet from a moving plane over St Andrews in Scotland and raised £520. She reminisces: “Sitting and waiting for the weather to improve for 3 days felt like time well spent reflecting why anyone would throw themselves out of a perfectly good airplane. Raising money for Interact Worldwide and the work they do seemed fair and feeling nothing but awe on the way down was a great reward.”

The Flora London Marathon April 2006
This year we had a fantastic team of 11 people, who ran the Flora London Marathon and together rose over £11,000 sponsorship. Congratualations and a huge thanks to all of you! One of the runners, Emma, has given us the opportunity to share her memories from this hard but amazing day.

"Not even Jane Austen could convey the pride I felt on finishing the London Marathon. I ran the whole way, completing 2 minutes faster than my husband’s prediction- wow what a feeling! The day was (well all the superlatives sound daft) wonderful. The crowd was unbelievable and made the whole day feel like a carnival (and I was the star). I have never heard so much live music in all my life. I had my name on my t-shirt so the thousands of people on the route could cheer me on. Another fascination for me was the route itself. I spend my life driving around in my, yes Big Red Volvo taking a long time to get not near far. I did not know where the Docklands, Isle of Dogs or Greenwich even were until that day, but now they are very close to my heart. I am still fascinated by how thousands of people managed to run down a street called Narrow Street. Running around the Cutty Sark I remember thinking, I can’t do my daughters’ math homework but I can do this marathon!

The most memorable times were running over Tower Bridge, eventually seeing my family on Poplar High street (they missed me at Tower Bridge) and then, the finishing it self. After Poplar High Street it got really hard (Ok, I can do this 6 miles, it is just a training run after all), and it also started raining hard. Running past the Tower of London I kept on thinking where is the Mall?! People kept shouting it is only a mile to go! Running those final miles I thought of my family, how they have coped with my training. My initial thoughts when starting the training were "I have got four kids and big boobs- I can not do this". But I did it!

I did also think a lot of the women Interact Worldwide supports, how my life has become much fitter and healthier, and wondered if and hoped that I was altering their lives in a positive way. I crossed the finish line witnessed by my 10-year old, Sarah, feeling exhausted and elated. Richard looked worn out after looking after them all day. The kids were wet but pleased that their mum was still alive. We eventually got to Interact’s party for a hot cup of tea and a chat.

When I got home my neighbours almost cheered my in and my dog, which had done all the training with me, greeted me at the front door. I had a shower, stretched and read stories to my 2 year old. My parents phoned me on a satellite phone in the Mediterranean, and I went to bed tired, elated and a bit sore, but with my Olympic Gold Medal!!"
