Interact Worldwide HIV

Two thirds of people living with HIV are in sub-Saharan Africa, where the epidemic is generalised and spreading most rapidly amongst young women - 76% of HIV positive young people there are female. In other regions the epidemic may be clustered in specific populations, but the rates of transmission are rising rapidly in the general population - in South East Asia for example the number of people living with HIV increased by 50% just between 2002 and 2004.
Poverty and social marginalisation can leave people more vulnerable to HIV, and equally people who are HIV positive often become marginalised, stigmatised and suffer increased poverty. Interact Worldwide’s work with Southern partners focuses on particularly marginalized groups, who find it most difficult to access prevention, treatment and care services: these groups include women, men who have sex with men, positive Muslims and intravenous drug users.
