Interact Worldwide HIV

There are almost 30 million people globally living with HIV today, and young people aged 15-24 account for half of all new infections. 2 in 3 people living with HIV are in sub-Saharan Africa, where the epidemic is generalised and spreading most rapidly amongst young women.
  • 76% of HIV positive young people there are female.
  • In other regions the epidemic may be clustered in specific populations, but the rates of transmission are rising rapidly in the general population.

Poverty and social marginalisation can leave people more vulnerable to HIV, and equally people who are HIV positive often become marginalised, stigmatised and suffer increased poverty. Interact Worldwide's work with Southern partners focuses on particularly marginalised groups, who find it most difficult to access prevention, treatment and care services:

  • Women, men who have sex with men, sex workers and intravenous drug users.
